SINTESI DEL CONTENUTO DELL’INTERVISTA A PINO GARGANO

Sono sordocieco. Vivo a Roma e sono venuto a questa manifestazione nello stesso modo in cui ho sempre manifestato alle iniziative organizzate in passato per il riconoscimento della LIS.

Spiego ora cos’è la LIS tattile o LISt. Come potete vedere, la LIS è una lingua che sfrutta il canale visivo e quello manuale; invece la LISt deriva direttamente dalla LIS ma in essa viene più sviluppata la modalità manuale. Infatti una persona sordocieca non può vedere una persona che segna di fronte a lui, ma può essere accompagnata da un volontario che conosce la LIS tattile e, affiancando le sue mani, possa fare da mediatore per qualsiasi tipo di comunicazione. La persona sordocieca non può sentire né vedere, quindi i canali ordinari di comunicazione linguistica sono per lui inaccessibili e l’impossibilità di comunicare causa frustrazione e impoverimento della vita.

Invece con la LISt è possibile un accesso completo alle informazioni da parte non soltanto delle persone sordocieche, ma anche sorde e ipovedenti. Pertanto, la LIS e la LIS tattile rappresentano un modo sicuro di garantire l’accesso alla comunicazione per tutte le persone. Dal riconoscimento della LIS consegue il riconoscimento della LIS tattile e per questo sordi e sordociechi collaborano in questa manifestazione. Qui, oggi, rappresento persone sordocieche e sorde e ipovedenti da ogni parte d’Italia. Ci tengo anche a precisare che oltre alle persone che rappresento ufficialmente ci sono anche molte persone sordocieche che per mancanza di informazione o vergogna non possono fare in modo che i loro diritti vengano rappresentati.

I’m deafblind. I live in Rome and I’ve come to this protest as I’ve always attended organized in the past for the recognition of LIS. Now I will explain what tactile LIS (LISt) means. As you can see, LIS is a language that uses the visual and manual channels of communication; instead, LISt comes directly from LIS but in a way that better supports the manual mode. In fact, a deafblind person cannot see the person who is signing in front of him, but accompanied by a volunteer who knows tactile LIS, using her hands, can serve as a mediator for whatever type of communication. The deafblind person cannot hear nor see, therefore the normal channels of linguistic communication are inaccessible for him and the impossibility to communicate causes frustration and lessens the quality of life.

Instead, with LISt it is possible for complete access to information for not only deafblind people, but also deaf people with poor vision.

So, LIS and tactile LIS represents a secure way to guarantee access to communication for all people. The recognition of LIS will be followed by the recognition of tactile LIS for these deaf and deafblind people who are participating in this protest. Here, today, I represent deafblind and deaf and people with poor vision from every corner of Italy. I also want to emphasize to official representatives that there are many deafblind people who are left without access to information or are ashamed that they cannot do things in a way that respects their natural-born human rights.
